I am not a die-hard fan of James Bond but after watching "Casino Royale" (CR), I immediately became a follower of the Bond franchise. CR was a reinvention of the Bond movies, in which James Bond is portrayed as an emotionless English bloke - a deviation from its predecessors. I guess the Bond franchise finally took the hint from Vin Diesel's movie "XXX" where tuxedo-wearing spies just doesn't appeal to people as it used to. (Note: in the first scene of XXX, a spy 'ala James Bond' was shot because he was wearing a tuxedo in an underground heavy metal concert).
So the next James Bond movie is coming to our cinemas in November 2008, reprising Daniel Craig as the infamous Agent 007. The new Bond movie, titled "'Quantum of Solace" (QoS) differs from other previous Bond movies in the sense that it is actually a sequel to the 2006's CR.
QoS begins an one hour after the end of CR. Betrayed by Vesper (Bond girl in CR & played by Eva Green), 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M interrogate Mr White (the guy who was shot in the leg at the end of CR) who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than expected. And true to its tradition, QoS also has the same Bond recipe: an ambitious villain, a psychotic henchman and of course, a Bond girl (this time played by unknown Olga Kurylenko).
Let's all hope that this 22nd Bond movie is better than its prequel because due to the precedent set by CR, people would definitely expect more.
On a personal note, let's also hope that I can persuade my lovely wife to join me to watch this movie in GSC's Golden Class... boleh eh, yang?
